I just put a set of images together on Flickr from my Chrome Angelz collection – original photos, images from magazines and flyers – it’s been doing the rounds on Facebook and had some nice comments from many respected UK artists. They now have a Facebook page too, run by Pride and if you have no idea what I’m talking about check out the wiki entry.
HAVE ALWAYS RATED CHROME ANGELZ HIGHLY, AM ALSO A GRAFF ARTIST FROM BACK IN THE DAY, AM CURRENTLY IN CENTRAL LONDON AND AM JUST FINISHING A GRAFF SKETCH FOR RHIANNA.
BIG UP TO PRIDE, BANDO, SCRIBLA, MODE 2, ATISKE, CHASE, ACT ONE, CRYSE, ZUKE, GOLDIE TOO MANY TUFF ARTISTS TOO MENTION.
I think it was the one with the Grace Jones cover (although I think it was a mannequin, not her) I was bigging up the their coverage of the Angelz funnily enough and listed some more graf crews including my mates who no one would have heard of
Next time I stumble across those negatives (they’re boxed up in my loft somewhere I think) I’ll get prints made and sort you out some scans. I used to love Steve Rumney’s Wicked Pulse column in Street Scene. Would love to know what happened to him. Google doesn’t turn up much more than me asking the same question six years ago. Which issue is your letter in?
I have a few more bits but not many, I’ve been searching around Facebook and there seem to be a few people posting photos of late from Freestyle ’85 including talk of a site being made to commemorate it. Street Scene lasted 17 issues to my knowledge, it was a good mag for the times, pre-internet and all, for a guy like me out in the sticks trying to get info on stuff. I even got a letter printed in one issue.
I went up to London to visit Covent Garden and photograph all those pictures too. Gave the originals to a friend (still have the negatives) 20+ years ago. Not seen most of those for a long time. I have those Street Scene magazines too. Does anyone know how many issues of that SS mag were published? I think I have 17. Couldn’t get it after that where I lived. Thanks for sharing these. They look great still. Talented bunch of people.
