I love this for it’s simplicity – at the time I was doing all of Jazz Fudge’s sleeves and, with DJ Vadim, had decided that the covers wouldn’t feature the artist’s names, only the titles and the JF logo. My friend Nancy Brown and I shot this, the Pelding ‘The Skunk’ EP and the DJ Vadim ‘USSR Reconstruction’ photos all in one day around South East London.
This was a typewriter we spotted in a Peckham junk shop and the cover was actually taken through the window. Coupled with the title – ‘A New Rap Language’ – this old way of writing seemed perfect as we were trying to get as far away from the conventional hip hop sleeve as possible.
