I love that I can find things like this on someone’s Tumblr site but what really pisses me off is that the site strips away any title the original file had. If the person putting it up then doesn’t credit the image (which few seem to) then that info is lost or takes an amount of detective work to find. It’s exactly this that exasperates me when the copyright laws making the use of ‘orphaned work’ (ie images found online with no discernible author attributed) then give users a better legal position to exploit it rather than protect the original owner.
Yeah, I’m continually annoyed by the sharing of images without attribution or context. Sometimes diving back through the re-tumbling chain leads to answers, but not always. I generally try to answer these questions regarding photograph locations or art if I’m considering re-tumbling it myself. ~rl
Very good to know!
weird, the link worked for me this time, thanks David, good to know
I just clicked on the link and it showed up fine, so it must be you! 😉 Anyway, give that image search a whirl – it’s pretty handy when you have a random image and no idea where it came from. None of this addresses the basic problem you cover in the post, but at least it allows you to try and give the original sources and credit for stuff.
I didn’t know that David, I’m getting a 404 on that link unfortunately
Google image search is your friend in situations like this, Kev. Just drag and drop the offending image and what you’re looking for is usually traceable. (e.g. http://design-milk.com/vintage-style-a-to-z-prints-by-67-inc/)
